A tasty supper dish using minced meat and condensed soup. Not sure where the name came from – I’ve tried googling it but can find nothing! The nearest to it is an Australian recipe called Baked Spaghetti with Mince and Cheese.
- 2 medium onions
- 1lb minced meat – beef or lamb
- 1 clove of garlic
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 small tin of tomato purée
- 4oz mushrooms
- 1/4pt lamb or beef stock
- 1 packet of medium egg noodles (cooked to instructions on packet)
- 7oz grated cheese
- 1 can condensed mushroom soup
- 1 can condensed tomato soup
Chop the mushrooms finely and sauté in a little butter or oil until transparent. Add minced meat and thinly sliced mushrooms and cook until the meat is browned. Add tomato purée, seasoning, herbs and garlic and stock. Simmer the mixture for around 30 minutes until tender.
Mix the soups in a large mixing bowl together with 5oz of the cheese. Cook the noodles (broken into pieces) and add to the soup mixture. Add the meat mixture and mix together thoroughly.
Place in a large ovenproof casserole and sprinkle with the rest of the cheese. Bake in a moderate oven for 30 – 45 minutes.
Can be frozen before baking. Defrost thoroughly before placing in the oven.
